Medical Oncology

You may be referred to a medical oncologist at Strathfield Breast Centre for advice regarding systemic treatment. Referral may occur before or after your operation or for advice at any time during your follow-up.

Hormonal therapy and chemotherapy are systemic treatments for breast cancer. One or both of these treatments may be recommended after surgery for breast cancer.

We have two medical oncologists, Dr Anne Sullivan and Dr Philip Beale.

You may choose to have your chemotherapy at Strathfield Private Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital or Concord Hospital. At each of these centres, there will be a specialist nurse who will talk to you regarding the effects and side effects of chemotherapy, and give you your treatment.

At The Strathfield Breast Centre, we have access to local, national and international clinical breast cancer trials.

We can also refer you to various support programs including the" Look Good – Feel Good" program and the "Encore" program, both aiming to enhance your physical well-being and appearance during your treatment.

Strathfield Private Hospital is now offering a medical oncology service, which allows breast cancer to be managed in an environment away from the stresses of the public system. Chemotherapy is delivered in a very one on one situation, with each patient being carefully assessed and managed. The patient is the top priority.
