Radiation Oncology

The Strathfield Breast Centre has two radiation oncologists as part of its multidisciplinary team.

Advice is provided concerning the role of radiotherapy in breast conservation for both for breast cancer and for ductal carcinoma in-situ (DCIS). The role of radiotherapy following mastectomy is discussed as well as its role in the metastatic setting. The advice and consultation is provided within the framework of a high quality multidisciplinary setting.

Dr. Susan Pendlebury is a Staff specialist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with a particular and recognized interest in breast cancer. Treatment recommended by Dr Pendlebury is undertaken in appropriate cases at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Dept of Radiation Oncology. This is a modern and well-equipped department offering all components of radiation oncology practice. All patients are simulated pre-treatment and CT Scanning and radiological verification of treatment fields is stringently undertaken in accordance with current best practice.

Patients are treated in accordance with national guidelines as published by the National Breast Cancer Centre.

Dr. Pendlebury is a member of the National Breast Cancer Centre Radiation Oncology Sub-group and has been particularly involved in the establishment of guidelines for axillary management.

Dr Rebecca Chin MB BS (Hons) FRANZCR is the other consultant radiation oncologist with the multi disciplinary breast team. She has been delivering comprehensive breast treatment for the last ten years in her role as a consultant with the Mater Private Practice, now Radiation Oncology Associates P/L (ROA) in Sydney. Radiation Oncology Associates is a member of the MIA Group Limited, Australia’s largest diagnostic imaging company, enabling extensive access to diagnostic information, ROA is a private practice situated at the MaterHospital Crows Nest and at St Vincent’s Clinic Darlinghurst.

The Practice has state of the art equipment both for accurate planning of treatmenttechniques, producing 3 dimensional isodosing for conformal dose delivery, and the latest Linac treatment machines with portal imaging capabilities and patient verification. At the Practice, a dedicated highly qualified radiotherapy and physics staff supports Dr Chin in providing both external beam therapy and brachytherapy.

Radiation Oncology Associates take pride in delivering excellence in cancer care to a very high number of patients and in its minimal waiting times for treatment. Dr Chin is involved in continuous professional development, playing an active part in breast and gynecological group meetings providing patients in her care with the latest information when making an informed consent to the best protocol for their treatment.
